Michaela has gone to Jackson over the past two weeks for ski races. Two weeks ago she was invited to the Topolino Shootout. It is an invitational qualifier for J3 (13 and 14 year old) athletes. The top three finishers of the top 20 athletes from the western region will get to the topolino championship races in Italy. The best part for Mickey was getting there she finished 8th a few times in the Giant Slalom and 17th or higher in the Slalom. Good positions for her.
Last weekend she went to Jackson again, this time for Super Giant Slalom (faster than both GS and Slalom). We got there on Thursday night and it was snowing lightly in town. The next day the 65 girls and 100 boys ran one inspection run and the girls had a race. Mickey came in third overall and second in her age group! Her friend Emma was second overall. Saturday morning while eating breakfast the coach called to tell me that Mickey had crashed during her morning warm-up. I got to her in the cafe and she was Ok but a little shaken-up. after about 30 minutes and a few parental checkups were got out to walk around. Her coach said her skis were ruined so we had to take them to the car. by the time we got to the car she was feeling good and pretty pissed off. We got her GS skis out and she said she would use them for the race. She came in second in the race later in the day and won in her age group. She said it was her Bodie weekend! Needless to say that she was very pleased with her performance. On Sunday she finished third overall again. Great job Mickey! headbang headbang
