Our Trip East

Post by Grampa & Gramma »

We went to Indy to watch Jordan and Andy while J & C went to Boise for a wedding, then on Sept. 27th left with Aunt Jean for Vermont. We flew to Indy and drove Jean's car on our trip. We stayed a week at Smugglers Notch ski resort in the mountains. From there we visited Alberg, on a penninsula at the north end of Lake Champlain, where the Babcocks lived before coming to Wisconsin. We found lots of Babcock info in Alberg. They were there 4 or 5 generations before James left for Wis. The Babcock house there was built by Job in 1827, and his son Ichabod was the father of James who moved to Wisconsin (about 1830's) with his wife Lovey (Reynolds), who was from nearby Faifax. James was the father of my great grandfather, Charles.
We were at a good time to see the leaves changing in N. VT, too. And we visited Ben and Jerry's first factory! And Vermont Country Store! It was a good week.
Then we went to Yarmouth on Cape Cod for a week. We explored the Cape and took the ferry to Nantucket, to connect with the Bunkers. It was very interesting to see the Island, so important in our family line, and in the early history of our country. We visited Boston and Bunker Hill, toured the city, saw the USS Constitution. And we visited Plymouth where John Howland, our Mayflower ancestor, lived (we connect through the Bunkers on Nantucket, where we also connect with the Macys).
In Indy we were able to catch two of Jordan's football games. He is a sophmore and the point-after and field goal kicker.
Then we spent a few days in Quincy with Bob, Kate, Carl and Sandy.
When we arrived home we had to get to work moving back upstairs, a work still in progress. And we are busy bringing in the house plants and cleaning up the gardens before we have our usual early Nov. snow.
Now some pictures:
