Mexico

Post by Grampa & Gramma »

Hello from sunny Mexico! The weather here is in the low 80's just perfect for sitting in the sun reading and enjoying a Margarita. Wish you all were here.
Had a day of golf in Phoenix with Father Eddy, former Alaska priest and then dinner after with 4 others from there who were visiting in the area, fun.
We visited Jean Lehman and this time she remembered us. We talked of the time John made us "flying saucers" when we visited. We were pleased.
Now we're off to walk on the beach.

We went to Puerto Penasco, also known as Rocky Point, 60 miles south of Arizona, for two weeks the first of February, thanks to a time share exchange. We stayed at the Mayan Resort, about 20Km south of town. The hotel was on a fairly isolated beach, but new houses and condos are encroaching fast.
The weather was cool, in fact they had a couple days of heavy frost the week before, so we didn't get to snorkel. We did get into the prawns, tho!
We brought home lots of prawns and had a party with our stay-at-home kids when we got back.
The nice thing about PP is that you can drive there - we'll go again. Anyone like to join us?

The sunsets were very good, but no green flash this time!

We played golf a couple times on a new Jack Nicholas course that was very difficult - sand and brush everywhere the ball landed! But it was fun!

The town hasn't yet changed much from what we can see, but the beach to the north is now the home of a dozen or more 10 to 20 story Condo complexes. Years ago friends of our used to come down and camp on these beaches but the place has been "discovered" by California, Phoenix and Tucson.

There are still tourist stores out on Rocky Point, and this is a picture of one of the more interesting and chaotic ones. Notice the mariachies on the roof!
