sex combs

Post by Chris »

I'm not sure that razor-sharp adamantium sex combs are a very fitness-enhancing result, but it may help extend our understanding metallic anabolism. (DoD may have some interest in funding such research)

antennapedia
One of the most striking mutations in Drosophila is the conversion of antennae into legs by the gain-of-function dominant mutation, Antennapedia (Figure 1).

and there is also proboscipedia

and

fruitless stimulation factor
Phenotypic class
courtship defective | male

Mutant phenotype
? ? ? ?
Homozygous males stimulate wild type males to court them even when the mutant males are ether anesthetized or have their head and thoraces removed. The level of courtship elicited by homozygous males is significantly higher than that elicited by wild-type males. Heterozygous males stimulate an intermediate level of courtship by wild-type males
and this isn't a mutant but may be what happens when a normal fly encounters a wolverine fly mutant
