Press Out Cookies (Tie-dyed Christmas trees!)

Post by Grampa & Gramma »

1 Cup Shortening (we use Crisco)
3/4 Cup Sugar
1 egg
2 1/4 Cups flour
1/8 Teaspoon salt
1/4 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Teaspoon almond extract

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually.
Add unbeaten egg, sifted dry ingredients, flavoring.
Mix well
Divide into seperate color lots and stir in coloring.
Form cookies with a cookie press.
Bake at 325 degrees F for about 10 minutes
(If they are getting brown at the edges shorten the time,)

We usually double this recipie since they are colorful and go quickly.

You cannot believe how hard these are to make with a bakery bag! Michaela tried and split the bag down the side. Afterward I showed her the press, i had gotten one from a neighborhood garage sale for $5. She tried again and had some great success.
