Kate and her friend Pat visited for a week in mid-June. We spent a lot of time on the back porch. The weather was warm and clear, the refreshments cool, and the jokes nicely off color! Then Monica brought Hunter to an orientation at the U of U, and Kay came along. They overlapped with Kate, which was really nice. Hunter will be coming back to the U in mid-August. He's doing the Video Game curriculum.
Judy's flowers are great this summer, and we have harvested our peas and first (of many, probably) zucchinis. The ruhbarb is still going strong.
It has been very warm and dry with no rain for well over a month, and some 40 fires in the state. But today it is raining nicely. We hoped to get out camping next week but were concerned about going into the woods when things were so dry. Maybe the rain will be enough to alleviate our concern.
Here are some pics:

Re: Visits
Here's the picture of the Quail Fire. It is over the mountain to the south of Dave's house on Little Cotonwood Canyon. The rain today should insure it doesn't spread over the top.

Re: Fire Drills
The local firemen were concerned about the proximity of grass and bush near houses here in the Avenues, so after the Fourth they practiced in several places, including the park behind our house. We were happy to see it!

Good to know those guys are close by. I hope they got some on the zuccini while they were there!
