2013 Canoe Trip

Post by Jon »

We had a great trip this year through the Ontario Lakes. The weather was great and the fishing was great. Lots of swimming and sight fishing for big Bass. Some big toothy ones were landed and a few got away. No serious injuries were sustained and the alcohol ran out on the last day.

Here are some pictures to get the bragging started. These are mostly from Day 2 (i didn't get the camera out until Day 2) where we travelled to the southern reach of Caviar Lake near the juncture with Flint Lake. We camped on a point that would have been called Otter point due to the routine use of the spot as a Otter litter box. But following the occasion of an angry ant that crawled up the pant leg of one of the expedition members and delivered a nasty bite (near the point) we decided that this would be Ant bite (near the) Point.

Here are some pictures from Cedar Tree Lake. We had a beautiful camp on a small island surrounded by deep clear water. We had the lake to ourselves the whole time. The weather was hot with almost no breeze so we spent a lot of time in the water keeping cool.

Not sure what we called this island but it was great.

Regarding the executive profile picture: Ada and I have an agreement which is that I don't post pictures of her sleeping in the truck and she will keep me on her sewing and knitting list. As amusing as her sleep pictures are it's not worth compromising the high quality knitted and sewn textile benefits. Also, sometimes it's hard to tell that she's sleeping and not in the middle of some type of seizure or some other rapturous event and I wanted to keep the site more 'family oriented'.

I don't have any pictures to post, just this installment to the trip narrative covering day four. Jon: Ada thinks that you are pretty cute when you are asleep, but ferocious and cunning when awake. Read on all, and see the section that some of you missed back (up-file entries) under the sepia tone picture taken of the outgoing expeditionary party by Uncle Dave

Here is the day 5 narrative. Once I have written the postscript (tomorrow or the next day) I will paste the whole thing together and send it out by email to y'sall so you can add your particular recollections, and then I'll compile these for a finished manuscript. Can one of you more tech savvy post a map with camps, and Jason's FindMe location posts?

Here is the final installment, a boring coda on a very fine adventure. I am already yearning to be out there again.

Here is the whole thing, proof-read, with some changes and corrections. I have emailed it around as well, and will be badgering you for your input before the particular memories fade.
