Kawabunga Dude

Post by Katie »

Over the summer holidays while Emma was here Dad sarted fixing up his old malibu which was tragicly snapped in half while surfing. Emma and Dad had the board back in one peice in no time and then we started painting it. Emma made a design for it and decided to go with modern pacific style hibiscus flowers. The board looks amazing. A shame we didnt get a 'before' photo.

Broken Board

Post by Grampa & Gramma »

Here's a picture of "before." This break was awesome in the making! I was there and saw it all! We were out at Dongotherigin Point. Russ was on a roll! The waves were big, maybe 10 meters, kind of perky, but almost every one was barreling. Lots had good bowling inside sections that he was flying into, then winding out huge cutties, stalling, and getting tubed. But his final wave did him in! He was dragging through a left hand barrel, wrenched a back side bottom turn, got too far left and ground his tail on the close out just as this super wave came over Dead Man's Reef. He did a flying 360 and came right back down on the board, and something had to give. It was the board, due largely to its greater age. But that was ok - he'd had a bonza day and was ready to crack a few tins.
